The Guardian Asked and Over 3,000 People Gave!

Our donors and supporters are everything to us. Without their help, none of what we do on a daily basis to eradicate illiteracy would be possible. In the case of The Guardian, over £38,000 of help for providing more books to children and families who need them the most, came last month!

This gift arrived after the British newspaper chose Worldreader as one of four beneficiaries during its 2013 Christmas Charity Appeal–the theme focusing on the future of Africa and the transformative power of affordable new technology. The Guardian promoted our work to thousands of its readers, endorsed us in a letter from the editor and even sent a correspondent to report from our programs in Ghana.

How much is £38,000? It’s equivalent to about $63,000 which goes a long way to help us distribute more e-books to children and families in need throughout Africa. That sum came from the personal contributions of nearly 3,000 British individual donors who believe in our cause.

We owe a huge debt of gratitude to our friends at The Guardian for choosing us for their annual charity appeal and for helping us raise funds for our cause. So, thank you The Guardian and all the donors involved for eradicating illiteracy with us! You’re help is deeply appreciated across the world.
