30,000 New E-Books in Ghana’s Volta Region
Last week we delivered 10,000 life-changing e-books to the North Region of Ghana and today we’re happy to share that another community in Ghana-in the Volta Region-is empowered with e-books. Joseph Botwey and Samuel Alomenu give you their perspective once again on how the launch went!
Through a collaboration with Pencils of Promise (PoP), 300 e-readers with 30,000 e-books were deployed this week into three communities in the Volta Region of Ghana. The devices were deployed in Mangoase, Dzelukope and Saviefe primary schools. Each school received 100 e-readers with 10,000 e-books.
The schools are located in a very rural and remote areas and with very limited resources. Before Pencils of Promise started to collaborate with the communities, they didn’t have classrooms– just a mango tree, some desks and a blackboard.
Pencils of Promise contributed to the construction of the school buildings and now thanks to the e-readers they have a great opportunity to begin the road towards literacy. Just imagine how far they can go with 30,000 e-books!
Parents were blissful to receive an entire library into their households. They have promised to promote reading in whatever way they can amongst their kids.
Pencils of Promise is aiming to provide e-books to all their schools in Volta region (15 already built and 15 still in construction). As you may know, this is our very first project in the region, and this current partnership with Pencils of Promise is definitely a great way to begin work in this area.
